2016 Patina Reserve Chardonnay

RRP: $45.00

MEMBER: $33.75

Tasting Note

Developed but fresh, smooth and well balanced with nothing obviously dominating the palate. This wine is fine in texture with apricot, white stone fruit and crisp apple flavours balanced by a little creamy lees. A multilayered cool climate style that is generous yet elegant with excellent structure and length.

Reviews & Awards:

93 Points  “Light, bright yellow hue. Attractive cashew-nutty aroma with some subtle smoky and toasty overtones. It’s soft and round, rich and full in the mid-palate, with generosity and a modicum of restraint. An appealing chardonnay which has room to grow. It’s already a lovely drink. Drink: 2019-2017.” Huon Hooke, Jun 2019

Description

Colour:  Pale straw.

Aroma:  Rich varietal chardonnay aromas of peaches and cream, rock melon, cashews and creamy barrel aged lees characters.

Palate: Developed but fresh, smooth and well balanced with nothing obviously dominating the palate. This wine is fine in texture with apricot, white stone fruit and crisp apple flavours balanced by a little creamy lees. A multilayered cool climate style that is generous yet elegant with excellent structure and length.

Winemaking:  Fermented and aged on its lees for 11 months in new and one year old French oak barrels. The Reserve Chardonnay represents the best of the vintage with only the best barrels selected for this wine.

Cellaring:  Orange Chardonnay generally complexes and improves quite dramatically during the first few years of bottle ageing. The good natural acid levels allow the oak and fruit to integrate resulting in a scrumptious wine to be savoured. It is drinking well now and I expect it become rounder and very scrumptious as it ages up to and well beyond 2025.
